Debrief time today was really fun to hear everyone’s stories from the clinic and laugh about funny things we did. Our team really has been growing closer as a little family. I got to work with Faith in the clinic and we saw quite a few patients who had a stroke. Even though they all had the same diagnosis, they were all treated differently.

We try to pray with every patient we see and today was the first time we had someone turn that down. She said she didn’t need it and that she was waiting to be saved. When one of the translators told her more about Jesus and His acceptance as you are, she said she still wanted to wait ‪until Sunday‬ to pray. Our question for her was why wait? If she keeps waiting, one day it’s going to be too late. I think we sometimes miss the urgency of the gospel.

I think some of us expected to meet more nonbelievers while in Haiti at the clinic. We thought that we would have to all the answers. But turns out it might be us that’s learning from the Haitians.

We had another lady come into the clinic that, when asked what prayer requests she had, asked us to pray for her daughter (who was with her) that she would come to follow Jesus. It was obvious how important it was for her children to have faith even when she’s gone. I think the majority of Haitians that we’ve seen value their faith in Jesus above everything else in their lives. It gives us a lot to think about. We get so distracted by things in America that we put our faith on the back burner.

One of my favorite stories about prayer from our team today was about a woman who thought her injuries were due to the earthquake a few years ago, even though the pain started a few days ago. After searching for answers and ways to physically treat her, we finally asked her if we could just pray for her. Her response was “that’s what I want.”

We may have to use translators here, but the language of prayer and the grace of God is universal.
