Haiti team update - 3-7-15

The entire team has arrived safely in Haiti! The team spent the night with Sabrina and her family outside of Port au Prince. The first full day was spent giving out shoes, playing soccer, visiting Mephibosheth orphanage, driving through Port au Prince, visiting Haiti Rehab Project, and making it to our new home for the coming week in Carrefour. At Mephibosheth orphanage we were able to fit a couple children for new equipment. One child was in need of a new wheelchair as his was too big and we were uncertain that the one chair we had brought would fit. But of course by God's grace, it fit perfectly! And with some modifications, the chair worked great for him. We were able to set up another child with a new walker that fit him great. We also were able to modify a young girls wheelchair to better fit her needs, especially to help her with feeding.
We were able to connect with an organization called Haiti Rehab Project from whom we ordered canes and walkers. This organization was a joint effort by a Haitian PT and an American PT who now employ Haitian men who are amputees and teach them to build assistive devices out of PVC pipes. It's an amazing organization that we are thrilled to partner with! Stay tuned for some photos of patients who will use these devices.
By 430 we safely arrived in Carrefour and began to settle in. We are all healthy and loving the Haitian hospitality and food! Everyone is tired from a long day with lots of transit time but our hearts are encouraged and excited for the days ahead!
Our internet is spotty so we apologize in advance for late posts but we will do our best to keep you all updated.
Please pray for our first full day in Carrefour tomorrow as we will be walking throughout the community most of the day, prayer walking, meeting new friends, searching for homebound people, and investing in lives at a level that pushes us out of our comfort zones.
We are grateful for you all!
