Finished the ministry week

We have all successfully finished an extremely fruitful and sweet ministry week in Carrefour.  Sorry about the lack of blog posts.  The electricity and internet have been very unreliable.  However, we have chosen to stay in the community in which we are serving, so this inconvenience is a way of life here every day of the year.

The biggest highlight of the week was that one young man received Christ this week after receiving PT care.  We have made an eternal difference here.

We will attempt to post more pictures and highlights as soon as possible.  We are all safe, well and healthy,  and will be returning home tomorrow with full hearts.

Clinic Day 1

Our first day of our Haiti Mission at Pastor Pierre’s church went very well, from our breakfast devotion at the newly opened coffee shop across the street through our evening team debrief about our day.  We were all in agreement that the day went smoothly due to pre-organization of supplies, clinic set-up, and teamwork that was ever present throughout the day.  We stretched our comfort zones bringing the Gospel into the lives of those who had no knowledge or who were sent to us to learn more.  They were young as 10 years of age.  We were able to keep the wait time to be seen to a minimum.  We are mindful of how God worked as we were able to see 39 patients today through the hearts and hands of everyone on our combined Haiti and US team.   Are all healthy and looking forward to our 2nd day.

Bonswa from Carrefour

Today was our first full day in Carrefour. The day started off with attending Pastor Pierre's church with our wonderful Haitian friends! The group was introduced & Ryan & Tori were announced as officially being Haitian. We worshipped & praised the Lord together. After church we came back to the house & rested before heading out to visit the community. We met with Pastor Pierre at the church to begin our prayer walk, passing out fliers, & seeking out the needs in the community. Pastor Pierre had a few houses he wanted us to stop at specifically to inform people about the clinic. There was a 15 year old girl with untreated club foot, a beautiful little girl with Down syndrome, a young girl with breathing problems, and an older lady that has cancer. As a group we walked down by the river to the shack community & even got to stop by the house Tori & the Gate Church built in 2012. There is a sweet mother & her baby living in the house now. We were able to visit & pray with lots of different families. Along the way we picked up several little friends who were interested in our watches & what we had in our back packs. It was a great day being able to go out into the community & meet new faces, plus spread the word about the clinic & the church. Tonight we will be going to church again where there will be lots of singing & dancing! We should all be ready for a good nights rest after that.

Haiti team update - 3-7-15

The entire team has arrived safely in Haiti! The team spent the night with Sabrina and her family outside of Port au Prince. The first full day was spent giving out shoes, playing soccer, visiting Mephibosheth orphanage, driving through Port au Prince, visiting Haiti Rehab Project, and making it to our new home for the coming week in Carrefour. At Mephibosheth orphanage we were able to fit a couple children for new equipment. One child was in need of a new wheelchair as his was too big and we were uncertain that the one chair we had brought would fit. But of course by God's grace, it fit perfectly! And with some modifications, the chair worked great for him. We were able to set up another child with a new walker that fit him great. We also were able to modify a young girls wheelchair to better fit her needs, especially to help her with feeding.
We were able to connect with an organization called Haiti Rehab Project from whom we ordered canes and walkers. This organization was a joint effort by a Haitian PT and an American PT who now employ Haitian men who are amputees and teach them to build assistive devices out of PVC pipes. It's an amazing organization that we are thrilled to partner with! Stay tuned for some photos of patients who will use these devices.
By 430 we safely arrived in Carrefour and began to settle in. We are all healthy and loving the Haitian hospitality and food! Everyone is tired from a long day with lots of transit time but our hearts are encouraged and excited for the days ahead!
Our internet is spotty so we apologize in advance for late posts but we will do our best to keep you all updated.
Please pray for our first full day in Carrefour tomorrow as we will be walking throughout the community most of the day, prayer walking, meeting new friends, searching for homebound people, and investing in lives at a level that pushes us out of our comfort zones.
We are grateful for you all!

Travel challenges

Bonswa!  At this moment, three team members are on the ground in Haiti as scheduled - Sam, Brenna, and Ryan. YAY!

The rest of the team is resting in Kansas City and Houston, awaiting our rescheduled early morning flights out to Haiti tomorrow.  With the ice storm in Dallas, our flights in and out of Dallas were cancelled. By the grace of God, His plan for us is that 7 of us arrive in Haiti a day later than we expected. We count it a blessing to get to spend some quality time together this side of Haiti, since none of us have been together for any team meetings prior to this trip due to everyone being spread across the country.

And tomorrow, we all converge on Haiti, God willing!
