Wednesday November 21, 2018

two hour drive outside of Lima while packed in with wheelchairs rattling precariously in the back started today’s trip. We drove to Ventanilla today to our second clinic site. We will only be at this site for two days total. Then our Peruvian MMI friends lined us up in front of the patients who were already eagerly waiting to be seen, and surprised us by telling the people that we would all be singing a song for them in Spanish. Even though most of us struggled to keep up, kids and their families clapped along, smiling and laughing, some even singing along to the praise song! It was a positive start to another hard, yet fun day. We spent hours creatively fitting wheelchairs and orthotics, attempting to modify them in order to best fit the kiddos we were seeing. It was amazing to see how we could use simple items such as velcro, twist ties, straps, and cement glue to use the parts that we have in order to make the best appropriate fit. The families were always ecstatic with the end results, some of them having waited a year and driving over 7 hours to be there. It is overwhelming once again to see how God provides theexact perfect match of device or orthotic for kids that come through our doors! For instance, one kiddo was unable to fit into one chair, the therapist and her team was able to create a different chair for them out of what seemed to be spare parts, then that chair which was originally unusable ended up being the exact match and size for a little girl who came through the door not even an hour later. God is so good and sovereign.

We have been so thankful to be able to be here in Peru and be used by God to serve these Peruvians. It has been amazing to be able to put to practice all the things that have been learned in classes, labs, practicals, and past experiences in this very real setting. He chose to uniquely prepare every member of this team to be present here this week and even here today. Even though individually we can feel weak and inadequate to fulfill the needs of these people, God has been gracious enough to show us the way to do that very thing. Pray for us to continue to step out in faith and willingness to give of ourselves even as we grow more tired with each clinic day. We know that God can sustain our hearts and our physical bodies, but we also know that prayer plays a vital role in this as well, so please keep partnering with us in this way!

“that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge, even as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed in you so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ… God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”  -1 Cor 1:5-9
