We landed! We may be a little sleep deprived but we made it
and we are excited to get this week started! We fortunately had no issues with
customs or losing any luggage or wheelchairs. This then led us to meet with
Asdrubal at the airport who is our coordinator for the week. He was very
friendly from the start and led the way to the hostel. We were then able to
rest and regroup for a little bit before starting to organize our week. After
lunch we went to our first clinic site in Pamplona, which is a small area right
outside the heart of Lima. This is where we were able to unpack all the
wheelchairs and put them back together again as well as separate and organize
miscellaneous supplies like braces and casting materials and orthotics. We also
had the opportunity to meet Pat while we were there. She is the owner/operator
of the clinic. She and MMI have partnered together to help the people of this
city. It was eye opening to hear how people with disabilities in this country
are just pushed to the side, but Pat and MMI are working to enhance the lives
of these children with disabilities through giving them the opportunity to meet
the functional life they could have. After unpacking at the clinic, we headed
back to the hostel and walked around town a little bit to get more immersed in
the culture before starting at the clinic tomorrow. We ended the night with a
team meeting to talk about how our week will go with hopes of a smooth
transition throughout. We could not be more thankful and humble for this
experience and we know that God has big plans for this trip. We are excited to
use physical therapy as a vessel to share the gospel.
Thank you, Lord for safe travel and starting their mission in the clinic. I enjoyed your blog.
